Passing That Test!
It feels like the moment you have been waiting for when you finally turn seventeen and are allowed to legally take the driving seat of a car. Freedom is calling, and no longer will you have to rely on the taxi of mum and dad to support your social life or work commitments. Six months of driving lessons, practising with your dad and swotting for that theory test soon pay off, and you finally past that test and can remove the L-plates. The moment you have been awaiting for has arrived, and now it is off on your own- well that is if you can afford it! For many young drivers car insurance premiums can be extremely high, which coupled with the rising cost of petrol and all those lessons you have just forked out for plus road tax and an NCT , could mean that actually being able to drive yourself is out of the question financially.
However you should not give up hope as there are many ways to help ease the financial burden on young drivers. If you are still in the process of learning to drive, start by re-evaluating your lesson schedule. Driving lessons are expensive, but important if you want to be able to successfully pass your test. However practice is the key to mastering what you have been taught by your driving instructor and if you can find a willing driver who is prepared to take you out for practice drives you could potentially save a huge amount of money as you master the skills quicker and need fewer lessons.
If you have passed you test, that is fantastic news and welcome to the world of motoring. Driving can be expensive and there are a number of things you have to pay for which you don’t have any control over; such as the price of road tax, NCT’s or petrol. However there are things which you do have some choice in, such as which company you purchase your car insurance from. Typically if you are a young driver, car insurance premiums can be high. This is due to the fact that statistically young drivers are more likely to be involved in road traffic accidents and thus represent a higher risk to the insurers. However, do not worry too much as while insurance premiums for young drivers may be higher initially, as soon as you get some experience under your belt and you are not involved in any accidents you should start to see your premiums come down. The good news is that there are a number of insurers offering young drivers car insurance, and some of them offer very competitive deals which won’t break the bank, and f you carry out a little research you should be able to find the right deal for you which will get you on the road to freedom as soon as you have passed that test! |
