Saving Tips for Motorists

Using a car for commuting and leisure whilst convenient, can take a big chunk out of your pay packet every month, but before you ditch your vehicle and jump on the bus consider these money saving tips. Some of the best ways you can save money whilst motoring is to adopt more eco-friendly driving methods.

The benefits of eco-friendly driving are that it uses less fuel and results in fewer trips to the pumps.  For example aim to drive more smoothly and avoid heavy braking by predicting what is coming up in the road ahead. Go easier on the accelerator and when you decelerate try to do so in a controlled manner and you will also go through less fuel. If you can drive a little slower and keep the car rolling to avoid start / stop driving you fuel consumption will also be better.  In addition you should stick to speed limits, as faster speeds expend more fuel and you could cause an accident by driving too fast on a road with a low designated speed limit.

Avoiding accidents will also help keep your car insurance costs down, which is another great way to save money. Drivers who cause fewer accidents are able to build up healthy no claims bonuses which car insurance firms take into consideration when calculating premiums. Whilst accidents aren’t always avoidable, be alert when on the roads and you can often predict what is going to happen up ahead, and give yourself a little more time to react to any changes.

You can also save money when it is time to renew your car insurance by not just accepting the first quote you find. You may be able to beat your renewal quote if you shop around and do a little bit of homework. It is worth considering the different policies offered by different car insurance companies. Once you have your car insurance sorted you can also save money before you even start driving. Do not leave your engine running for too long before you plan to set off as this uses unnecessary fuel and consider whether you really need you heated seats or air con systems on as an increased electric load needs more fuel to power it.  All these tips are simple to do and should have you saving money in no time.
